Careers
At Castle Donington College, our vision for Careers Education is to raise aspirations, teach pupils the skills to achieve their full potential and to provide opportunities to experience different career pathways. We provide a planned programme of activities to support pupils through key transition points, achieve career aspirations, and ultimately to be able to sustain meaningful employment throughout their lives. We aim to improve the life chances of our young people by offering a nurturing, safe and supportive environment and a personalised learning experience.
Providing effective careers education, information, advice and guidance ensures pupils move to their next stage with the right tools, values and understanding to help prepare them for a happy, successful future.
Our Careers offer is delivered through our curriculum (in particular through our Personal, Social, Health Education or PSHE programme) and we provide impartial Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) to support pupils’ transition to Post 16 settings, vocational training or employment. This guidance is offered by tutors, outside providers and through one-to-one interviews with our Level 6 trained independent careers adviser. All pupils and their parents also have 24-hour access to our online careers software.
We encourage pupils to value lifelong learning and we provide opportunities for pupils to develop key employability and enterprise skills which are highly valued by employers, colleges, universities and apprenticeship providers.
The CEIAG Programme has been developed to engage parents and local employers, both in college and outside, to support our pupils in becoming work and world ready. The programme is underpinned by the aspirational Gatsby Career Benchmarks. We evaluate our programme again these benchmarks using a system called Compass and through our partnership with the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP).
